Golfer Adam Scott Positive for COVID-19

PGA golfer Adam Scott tested positive for COVID-19 this week and had to withdraw from The Zozo Championship at Sherwood.  He tested positive at an on-site facility near Sherwood Country Club.  Jim Herman will take his place in the tournament field as he was the first alternative.

In a statement Adam said, "While it’s difficult news to receive – as I really looked forward to playing this week – my focus now is on recovery for the final stretch of the fall,”

Adam Scott was one of the golfers who was hesitant to return to golf because of coronavirus and hasn't played in too many recent events.  As a previous Masters champion, he will have about three weeks to recover and be clean before The Masters starts.

Tracking the NFL's Week 7 COVID-19 Players

Here is the weekly post that will track the players that have been placed on the NFL's Reserve/COVID-19 list.  As players are placed on the list, this post will be updated with each addition.  Here are the players that have been added to the NFL's Reserve/COVID-19 list before the week 7 games:

  • October 19 - The Las Vegas Raiders have placed rookie cornerback Damon Arnette on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. He was already on the injured reserve due to thumb surgery and was the Raiders first round pick.
  • October 19 - The Carolina Panthers placed offensive lineman Michael Schofield on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. The Panthers are working remotely on Monday and Tuesday out of an abundance of caution.
  • October 21 - The Carolina Panthers placed kicker Joey Slye and offensive lineman Trent Scott on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.  It is believed they were placed on the list due to close contact with someone with COVID-19 and not a positive test.
  • October 21 - The Las Vegas Raiders placed offensive lineman Trent Brown on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.  The Raiders also sent home the rest of the starting offensive lineman as a precaution because of close contact with Trent Brown.
  • October 22 - The Las Vegas Raiders have placed safety Jonathan Abram and offensive lineman Kolton Miller, Denzelle Good, Rodney Hudson, and Gabe Jackson on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.  This was as a precaution as they were in close contact with Trent Brown.  The NFL has moved the Raiders vs. Buccaneers game from primetime to Sunday at 4:05 to allow for flexibility in case the game has to be moved.  They will still have a prime time game if that is the case.
  • October 23 - The New Orleans Saints have placed wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.  Coach Sean Payton said that he was experiencing symptoms and was sent home to quarantine after practice on Thursday.  Sean Payton also said Sanders had a positive test and he knows where he got it outside of the facility.  Emmanuel Sanders will miss this week's game vs. the Carolina Panthers.
  • October 23 - The Carolina Panthers placed cornerback Rasul Douglas on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. He will miss Sunday's game vs. the New Orleans Saints.
  • October 23 - The New Orleans Saints later added cornerback Ken Crawley to the Reserve/COVID-19 list due to close contact with Emmanuel Sanders.  He will miss Sunday's game as well.
  • October 24 - The Buffalo Bills placed TE Dawson Knox on the Reserve/COVID-19 list after testing positive for coronavirus.  After reviewing contract tracing protocols, the Bills also placed tight ends Lee Smith, Tommy Sweeney and practice squad TE Nate Becker on the Reserve/COVID-19 list due to close contact.  None of the tight ends will play against the Jets on Sunday.
  • October 24 - The Chicago Bears placed cornerback Michael Joseph on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. He was previously on IR and hasn't been around the team.
  • October 24 - The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed running back Chris Thompson on the Reserve/COVID-19 list and he will miss Sunday's game against the Chargers.

The Latest NFL COVID-19 Cases

There have been some recent NFL COVID-19 cases as well as some players being added to the NFL's Reserve/COVID-19 list.  Below are the details of the cases from the last week or so and the impact it has had on the NFL's schedule:

  • October 6th - The Las Vegas Raiders placed defensive tackle Maurice Hurst on the Reserve/COVID-19. He was later confirmed to have tested positive.
  • October 6th - New England Patriots practice squad defensive tackle Bill Murray was added to the Reserve/COVID-19 list.  This came a few days after the Patriots placed quarterback Cam Newton on the list for a positive COVID-19 test.
  • October 7th - New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore tested positive for COVID-19 and was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. He released a statement saying he was asymptomatic.  The Patriots had to cancel practices and their week 5 game had to be postponed.
  • October 10th - The Chicago Bears placed practice squad offensive lineman Badara Traore on the Reserve/COVID-19 list and they had to modify their practice schedule.
  • October 11th - New England Patriots placed starting defensive tackle Byron Cowart on the NFL's Reserve/COVID-19 list after a positive test.  This was another reason their week 5 game was postponed.
  • October 13th - The Kansas City Chiefs placed fullback Anthony Sherman on the Reserve/COVID-19 list for being in contact with somebody who has tested positive.  This comes 10 days after practice squad quarterback Jordan Ta'amu tested positive for COVID-19 and was placed on the list.
  • October 13th - The Atlanta Falcons placed defensive tackle Marlon Davidson on the Reserve/COVID-19 list after a positive test. This caused Atlanta to cancel some practices and put the Carolina Panthers on alert as they played against Marlon Davidson and the Falcons a few days before his positive test.
  • October 16th - The Carolina Panthers placed offensive lineman Tyler Larsen on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. He played 5 special teams snaps vs. the Falcons last weekend, but there is no evidence at the moment that this was related to the Falcons and their positive test.
  • October 16 - The New England Patriots placed offensive lineman James Ferentz on the  Reserve/COVID-19 list.  So far, the league hasn't made any adjustments to the schedule for week 6.
  • October 16 - The Philadelphia Eagles placed starting offensive lineman Matt Pryor on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.  He did not test positive, but came in close contact of somebody that did outside of the building and will miss the Eagles week 6 game because of this.
  • October 17 - The New England Patriots added 3 more players to the NFL's Reserve/COVID-19 list - running back Sony Michel, offensive lineman Shaq Mason, and defensive end Derek Rivers.  Despite these and other positive tests earlier this week, their game against the Broncos is still expected to be played.
  • October 17 - The Atlanta Falcons placed defensive end John Cominsky on the Reserve /COVID-19 list.  Their game against the Minnesota Vikings is still expected to be played.

PGA golfer Dustin Johnson tested positive for COVID-19 this week and had to withdraw from The CJ Cup at Shadow Creek.  Dustin was experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and notified PGA Tour officials.  He was then administered a test which came back as positive for coronavirus.  J.T. Poston will take his place in the tournament field as he was the first alternative.

In a statement to ESPN, Dustin said, "Obviously, I am very disappointed. I was really looking forward to competing this week but will do everything I can to return as quickly as possible. I have already had a few calls with the tour's medical team and appreciate all the support and guidance they have given me."

Kansas City Chiefs Practice Squad QB Positive for COVID-19

Kansas City Chiefs practice squad quarterback Jordan Ta'amu has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 and has been placed on the NFL's Reserve/COVID-19 list.

The Kansas City Chiefs vs. New England Patriots game has already been postponed until at least Monday or Tuesday because New England quarterback Cam Newton has tested positive for coronavirus.  Jordan Ta'amu's positive test adds another wrinkle to the postponement as he was probably mimicking Cam Newton in practice this week and was in contact with other players.  It is somewhat ironic that he was pretending to be Cam Newton in practice and now they both have tested positive for COVID-19.

We will see if this positive test results in any more positive tests for the Kansas City Chiefs and what impact this will have to this week's game vs. the Patriots.

Jordan Ta'amu has been added to the NFL Football Positive List for COVID-19.  Visit that link to see all NFL players that have tested positive or have been added to the Reserve/COVID-19 list to date.

Patriots Cam Newton Positive For COVID-19

ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton has tested positive for COVID-19 and is out for Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The New England Patriots released a statement which said, "Late last night, we received notice that a Patriots players tested positive for COVID-19. The player immediately entered self-quarantine. Several additional players, coaches and staff who have been in close contact with the player received point of care tests this morning and all were negative for COVID-19.

We are in close consultation with the NFL, as well as our team of independent doctors and specialists, and will follow their guidance regarding our scheduled trip to Kansas City and our game against the Chiefs. The health and safety of our team, as well as our opponent, are of highest priority"

If the game is played, backup quarterback Brian Hoyer will most likely make the start for the Patriots.

Cam Newton has been added to the NFL Football Positive List for COVID-19 and is the first New England Patriot to be added to the list. Visit that link to see all NFL players that have tested positive or have been added to the Reserve/COVID-19 list to date.

Three Titans Players Test Positive For COVID-19

This morning news broke that three Tennessee Titans players and five personnel have tested positive for COVID-19.  The Titans and the Minnesota Vikings, who played the Titans on Sunday, both suspended in-person club activities.  This puts their upcoming games at risk of being postponed while they cannot practice in-person and have to do additional testing before clearing players.

We now know who the three players who tested positive for coronavirus are because the Titans placed them on the NFL's Reserve/COVID-19 List.  They are defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, long snapper Beau Brinkley and tight end Tommy Hudson.

We will see if any more positive tests arise from the additional testing that is happening and I will do updates on this site if there are any.

DaQuan Jones, Beau Brinkley and Tommy Hudson have been added to the NFL Football Positive List for COVID-19. Visit that link to see all NFL players that have tested positive or have been added to the Reserve/COVID-19 list to date.

UPDATE - Tennessee Titans Linebacker Kamalei Correa was also added to the Reserve/COVID list on Wednesday.  There is also an additional player that has tested positive, but the name has not been revealed.  Due to this, the NFL has postponed the Titans game this week vs. Pittsburgh.

UPDATE -Tennessee Titans cornerback Kristian Fulton was added to the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Thursday.  On Friday 10/2, it was revealed that two additional tests came back as positive.

UPDATE 10/2 - The two additional test results were wide receivers Adam Humphries and Cameron Batson.  There are now a total of seven Tennessee Titans that are currently on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

UPDATE 10/3 - There were three additional positive tests for the Titans, with one being a player and two being staff members. There are now 16 total positive tests, with eight being players.

UPDATE 10/3 - Defensive End Jeffery Simmons was the player from earlier today who tested positive and has been added to the Reserve/COVID-19 List

UPDATE 10/4 - Fullback Khari Blasingame tested positive and is the ninth Titan to be confirmed positive for COVID-19.

UPDATE 10/7 - After a few days of negative tests, two Tennessee Titans players tested positive.  One of those players was revealed to be wide receiver Corey Davis.  This puts the Titan's game this week in jeopardy as well.

UPDATE 10/8 - One of the positives from yesterday was inconclusive, but now that test is a confirmed positive from this morning.  This player has not been named, but should be placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list soon.

UPDATE 10/8 - The Tennessee Titans placed tight end MyCole Pruitt and practice squad defensive back Breon Borders on the NFL's Reserve/COVID-19 list.

A.J. Terrell was Atlanta's first round pick this year and earned a starting role with the team.  He will miss Sunday's game and is the first NFL player to test positive during the season.

No other players tested positive on Friday and contact tracing will be used to determine who came in contact with A.J. Terrell.  If Saturday's tests come back negative and other players have no symptoms, they will be able to play on Sunday.  The test results of those players should be available Sunday morning.

Golfer Sam Horsfield Positive for COVID-19, Withdraws from U.S Open

PGA Golfer Sam Horsfield tested positive for COVID-19 and was forced to withdraw from this week's U.S. Open.

Sam posted the following message on social media:

"Unfortunately, despite testing negative last Thursday prior to travelling to New York, I have subsequently tested positive for Covid-19 at the U.S. Open testing centre and have therefore had to withdraw from the tournament.

It goes without saying that I am hugely disappointed to not have the opportunity to play in my fourth U.S. Open, but clearly the safety of the tournament and other players is paramount. I want to wish everyone all the best for a great week at Winged Foot and thank all the staff at the USGA and PGA Tour in helping me navigate the situation.

I am pleased to say that I am currently asymptomatic and feeling well, but in line with CDC guidelines, I will be notifying those I have been in contact with and self-isolating until I can produce a negative test with a view to returning to tournament play ASAP."

Sam Horsfield will be replaced by Rory Sabbatini in the U.S. Open.  He is the 2nd golfer that had to withdraw from the U.S Open due to COVID-19 with Scottie Scheffler testing positive earlier this week.

Rookie PGA Tour golfer Scottie Scheffler withdrew from the U.S. Open today after testing positive for COVID-19.  He is the ninth PGA Tour golfer to test positive for COVID-19 and the first positive test in six weeks.  Scottie tested positive at home and The United States Golf Association said that he is asymptomatic.

Branden Grace will be replacing Scottie Scheffler in the U.S. Open, which is somewhat ironic because he was the last PGA Tour golfer to test positive for coronavirus.

Scottie Scheffler is currently ranked 29th in the world and has been playing great lately, so this
is a tough break for him.

Scottie Scheffler has been added to the PGA Golfer Positive List for COVID-19. Visit that link to see all PGA golfers that have tested positive to date.

Astros starting pitcher Jose Urquidy has been out since the season began after testing positive for COVID-19 at the start of Summer Camp.  Jose Urquidy revealed that he was in quarantine for 35-40 days after four additional positive tests.

While in quarantine, he was unable to do any throwing, so he had to build up his arm strength after coming out of quarantine.

He was quoted as saying, "It’s really been frustrating for me. I wanted to be here with my teammates from the beginning of the season. It’s just unfortunate I wasn’t able to [because of] the situation with COVID, but it is what it is."

Jose Urquidy started Saturday's game and going into the game was expected to throw about 50-60 pitches.  He ended up throwing 63 pitches in 3 and 2/3 innings while giving up 4 hits and 2 earned runs.

Steven Means is the first NFL player to be added to the list in the past few weeks and joins Jaguars tackle Ryan Pope as the only players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.  Steven Means missed all of 2019 with an injury and played in eight games with the Falcons in 2018.

Nick Markakis Potentially Exposed to COVID-19

Atlanta Braves outfielder Nick Markakis was placed the injured list after he was "potentially exposed to COVID-19." Markakis tested negative for the virus, but the Braves wanted to be cautious by placing him on the injured list. There is no minimum amount of time that he needs to be on the injured list, so he can be reactivated if his tests continue to be negative.

Nick Markakis originally opted out of the season due to his concerns with coronavirus, but shortly after the season started, he decided to rejoin the Braves. Since his return, he has been one of the Braves' hottest hitters batting .353 in 12 games played.

This post will be updated with more information if there is any change in status with Nick Markakis and his COVID-19 tests.

Chargers Coach Anthony Lynn Confirms COVID-19

Last night on HBO was the season premiere of Hard Knocks which features the Los Angeles Chargers.  Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn was addressing his team on a Zoom call and said, "This year is not like any year we've ever had in the National Football League.  I can't promise you you're not gonna get infected. I got infected."

This shocked his team and he had not told anybody previous to this episode airing.  Anthony Lynn is the third NFL coach to confirm a positive coronavirus test joining Saints coach Sean Payton and Eagles coach Doug Pederson.

Anthony Lynn said he got tested after watching a PGA Tour event where a golfer withdrew due to body aches and a positive COVID-19 test.

"I said, ‘S---, my body kinda feels like that. If I hadn’t been watching that golf event and saw that golfer complain about back aches and soreness, I never would’ve even gotten tested and I would’ve had this and never even known it and, s---, probably would’ve got people infected."

Branden Grace Eighth PGA Golfer With COVID-19

Last week at the Barracuda Championship, PGA golfer Branden Grace had to withdraw after the second round of the tournament due to a positive COVID-19 test.  Branden was actually in a tie for 2nd place when he was forced to withdraw before the 3rd round.

Branden Grace was also unable to participate in this weeks major, the PGA Championship, due to his positive coronavirus test. He has finished in the top-five twice in the past five PGA Championships.

Tough break for a player having to withdraw mid-round of a tournament they were in contention to win.  Also a tough break in having to miss a major golf tournament in which he has had past success. After his 10-day isolation period, he should be able to rejoin the competition soon.
